Directions

For all the meat lovers this is a fine snack. This English recipe is from the eighteenth century and therefore we felt it was time to share this with you.

Start with preheating the oven to 220 C °. Put some butter in a pan and when this is hot, add the sausages. You don’t have to bake the sausages for too long. Let them fry until they are slightly Brown on the outside. Then you can get them from the pan and let rest.

Put the eggs in a mixing bowl and beat them. Meanwhile, add the milk and flour and make a nice batter. Add some pepper, salt and thyme. After you have done this you grab the baking tin and cover this with some oil. Put the sausages slightly apart in the dish and pour the batter over it. Make sure the sausages to about half in the batter. Your baking dish should thus not too big or too small.

Bake the Toad in the hole for about 30 minutes. The batter will rise in the oven but as soon as you take it out it collapses a little bit. Once it has a beautiful golden brown look you can take it from the oven and start cutting it.

Enjoy!
