International Sushi Day

- 500 g sushi rice
- 700 ml water
- 10 tbs sushi vinegar
- 2 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 200 g surimisticks
- 2 avocado's
- Soy sauce
- Pan with a thick bottom
- Bamboo mat
- Cling film
- Large bowl (no metal)
- Shap knife
Today is International Sushi day! We celebrate Sushi Day anyway, the only question is how? Are you going to the tasty, yet standard sushi restaurant or are you inviting someone to celebrate Sushi Day with us, CuliNice. By making your own sushi!
First you start cooking the sushi rice. Use a rice cooker or a thick-bottomed pan. Put the sushi rice and the water in the pan and bring this to a boil. Cook it for 10 to 15 minutes. Then you put a clean dish cloth over the pan and put the lid on it. Let the rice steam for 15 minutes.
Let the sushi rice cool down and put it in a large bowl (no metal). Meanwhile, Heat the sushi vinegar and add the sugar and salt to it. Make sure the sugar and salt are dissolved. Let this cool and add it to the sushi rice. Gently Stir together and make sure the rice doesn't break! Now that the rice is ready, we will start cutting the ingredients and rolling the sushi.
Cut the cucumber through the middle and remove the flesh, pitted the avocado and take the surimi sticks and cut it into thin strips.
Take the sushi mat (bamboo mat) and pack it with cling film. Grab a nori sheet and place it with the shiny side down. Make your fingers regularly wet, so that the rice doesn't stick to your fingers. Apply the rice evenly to the sheet and leave a cm free on one side, this is the sticky edge. Place the cucumber, surimi and avocado in the middle, make the sticky edge a little wet and roll the nori up (start on the side without a sticky edge) using the sushi mat. Now you have a well-rolled sushi. Take a sharp knife hold it under the tap so that the sushi doesn´t stick to your knife so you can divide the sushi into similar pieces.
Place the pieces on a nice plate, take a bowl and fill it with soy sauce. Now you're all set to celebrate International Sushi Day! So grab your chopsticks and enjoy!
