Gado gado is a vegetarian dish from Indonesia which (usually) consists rice, vegetables, prawn crackers and satay sauce. My mother once devised a variant and together with my brother and sister I have come up with a name for this. At home we call this dish; Rice cake. The recipe contains other ingredients and is just as delicious!
Cut the chicken into cubes and put it in a bowl. Add one and a half tablespoon of olive oil and three tablespoons of sweet soy sauce. Stir well and leave it for at least 5 minutes.
In the meantime you can cook the rice and the green beans. If you use fresh green beans, put plenty of water in the pan and let it cook first. Then put the green beans in the pan and cook for about 13 minutes. In the case of frozen green beans, the instructions for use are on the packaging.
For this recipe you can use almost all kinds of rice, with the exception of sticky rice like the kind you use for risotto. So first of all, look if you already have something in your kitchen. The instructions to use the rice are also on the package, but usually you cook rice between 10 and 13 minutes.
Once the rice and green beans are cooking, you can continue baking the chicken. Use a frying pan or wok pan for this and add a very small amount of olive oil. Once the pan is warm, fry the chicken (with olive oil and sweet soy sauce) until it's done, this takes about 8 to 10 minutes. Always check that the chicken is well done by cutting 1 block in half. The chicken may no longer be pink on the inside.
After this you bring another pot of water to the boil and put the endive cook for one minute.
Now the sauce remains. You can use peanut sauce or gado gado sauce for this. The gado gado sauce is slightly thinner and milder than peanut sauce but just as tasty. Do you like to eat something spicier? Then add a teaspoon of sambal to the peanut / gado gado sauce.
Take a large flat (oven) scale. On the bottom you spread the chicken, on top of this is the endive, then the green beans and the bean sprouts. To finish, you divide the peanut sauce and crumble prawn crackers with your hands over the whole dish dish.
Now you can brag everything at once with a big spoon and you can build your own rice cake on your plate. Serve the rice separated.
Good luck and enjoy your meal!
