Baked fries with sambal
- 1,18 a person
- 2 persons
- 1/2 zak (frozen) oven fries
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 1 tbsp sambal oelek
- Optional: some sambal badjak
- Oil to bake in
- Something to stir with
- Fork or mini-whisk
Really, this recipe is the discovery of the century, for real. I got the recipe from a colleague and I did not believe that this would be a success and even this delicious. It is an Indonesian dish with a difficult and exotic name, but for now: baked fries with sambal!
The official name for the dish is 'sambal goreng kentang kering', freely translated: baked fries with sambal. So next time in the snack bar we say: I'll take some kentang please! Ok, here it comes;
Take a wok and heat some oil in it, not more than you'd usually do. Meanwhile, mix a spoon of vinegar with a spoon of sambal oelek. You can play with this mixture, because it depends on how spicy you can take your food. So, you can also add some sambal badjak to sweeten it a bit. Mix this really short with a fork or mini-whisk and bake this in the oil. This can spatter a little, so be careful! Keep on stirring it and when you begin to smell the sambal you can add the (frozen) oven fries, as many as you like. Thing is, the less fries, the more spicy of course.
Bake this approximately 5-10 minutes and add some oil every now and then, but not too much, you don't have to really fry them. Bake until crispy (yes they will be!) and serve immediately, for example with a nice hamburger!
This recipe is ideal for me because real oven fries have to be turned around and the oven has to be preheated for a long time. This, combined with the fact that it's really tasty and quick makes it fantastic!
