A very nice side dish for Christmas; onion compote
- 500 grams of onions
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 200 ml red wine
- 3 tablespoons cane sugar
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
In 2 weeks will be the best time of the year for me; Christmas. My Christmas is really all about family and cosiness. Of course, good food can’t be missed here. This onion compote is great to combine with a nice piece of meat, game or turkey.
We start with peeling the onions. I personally find it annoying that your hands always stink when you work with onion. Tip to remove the odor; Spread peanut butter on your hands and then wash your hands. After the onions are peeled, cut the onion in half and then stick in half moon.
Heat some butter in a pan. Now we going to bake the onion. Do this on a medium heat for 10 minutes. Now the onion is fried a bit, we will add the rest of the ingredients. Add the wine, cane sugar, balsamic vinegar and cinnamon. Bring this to boil. Is the mixture boiling? Let this boil for 10 minutes.
The final step is to put the mixture in a nice jar. Make sure you grab a pot that can close properly, such as a preserving jar. Because you put the mixture warm in the jar and let it cool in it, the jar automatically draws vacuum.
Enjoy your meal! Tip: Is there still a bit of the delicious onion compote about the next day? It is delicious on a sandwich with some cheese!
